I’m a 2008 alum who is deeply, desperately in love with TFA’s mission. That’s why I want TFA to change.
TFA should focus more on promoting the well being of kids and less on burnishing its own brand. While most everyone I’ve met within TFA is passionate, and working hard for all the right reasons, I think the organization should seriously consider its role in the teacher education landscape. Kids need stability and highly trained professionals, and though we do an admirable job given our organization’s self-imposed constraints, I questions if a hugely expensive, short-term teaching corps is really what kids need.
My hope is that alumni can help redirect all the energy and passion that is TFA to help our organization achieve its mission.
